This classic setting overlooking the river and waterwheel complements the casual, fine dining perfectly. The patio has a great view and a casual menu. Inside the cozy fireplace is very romantic or you can get a very private dining room for business or family events. Food was excellent with good variety and local flavours. Definitely worth the short country drive for a complete night out experience. Not nearly as expensive as I thought.Read more
The Best Western Governor's Inn says classy from the moment you pull in the driveway and the lobby and professional staff continues this feeling. From a beautiful lobby to a restaurant/lounge that has the rich, comfortable feel of fine leather (although for the record there was no leather). Our server was attentive, polite and quite pleasant and although it was obvious that she was pushing the buffet there was no problems when I ordered off of the menu. This place gets a perfect 10 when it comes to atmosphere.
I ordered the Governor's Chicken Schnitzel with mashed potatoes and the garden mix. The chicken schnitzel was prepared quite to my liking, cooked to perfection, moist on the inside and the breading was wonderfully crunchy and seasoned perfectly. The mashed potatoes were quite good, fluffy and smooth, and clearly not instant (a pet-peeve of mine is instant potatoes). The garden mix consisted of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green and red pepper slices and was steamed to perfection. I rate this meal a 9 out of 10, nearly flawless.
Overall this restaurant gets 9.5 out of 10 and will say that I will defiantly be eating there again.Read more
We celebrated our 39th anniversary at this marvelous location.
We started with champagne cocktails. A bread basket with French and Pumpkin bread slices with butter and a red pepper spread arrived at the table. Very enjoyable texture and taste.
A little while later we had the soup of the day - a lobster and seafood blend. We found it a little strong on the seafood taste for a bisque and a little cooler than expected. During this course a crisp piece of baguette covered with a dollop of pumpkin mousse was presented - a delightful taste experience.
Did I mention this was also Thanksgiving Weekend.
Prior to the arrival of the main course, we were presented with a red wine ice (sort of a sorbet) which was delightful treat to cleanse the palate!
For entrees, my wife had the fish of the day - a pan seared trout with rice and vegetable blend. The trout was cooked to perfection and tasted divine, the rice was buttery and also cooked to perfection as were the vegetables. I selected the pan seared scallops and lobster. The scallops were succulent, sweet and melt in your mouth tender. The lobster was a shelled claw also sweet and tender. We had a bottle of VQA Pinot Gris from the Niagara Region. It beautifully complimented our main course. Both meals were plated in true gourmet fashion.
We shared the Triple Chocolate dessert which wasn't quite as 'chocolatee' as we would have liked but very smooth and enjoyable.
The tea we ordered following our dinners was properly prepared in tea pots with boiled water.
The wait Staff was attentive, polite, courteous but not intrusive. It appeared as though the staff collaborated with one another in a seamless fashion. It was a such pleasant experience interacting with them. They could not have been more professional or effective in their service.
Of course the Inn is an esthetically delightful structure. The Dinning Room is multi-levelled and nicely arranged in an "L" shape. Tables are carefully spread out so you don't feel that you are intruding on other patrons dinning. We had a 6:30 seating and there were several tables already occupied; by the time we completed our dinning ( nearly three hours later) the room was full.
We have been dinning at some of the nicest restaurants in the Toronto/Golden Horseshoe Region for decades. This trip to the Millcroft Inn and Spa was one of the best dinning experience we've had - period!Read more

We purchased a package deal from Travelzoo for one night accomodation including dinner for two then breakfast for two. Meals and service in the dining room were wonderful although the beef tenderloin which we ordered for dinner was a bit dry and not all that appealing to the eye-just appeared like a thick hunk of meat on a plate. We were in room 303, bed linens definitely need improvement as do pillows which were so soft and mushy as to be non existent. Not Ontario's finest Inns quality.Read more

The menu is not extensive and there was no overall 'theme' but the food we had was pretty good. They recommended a great wine and the waitress was excellent - both friendly and helpful.
We booked at the last minute and were glad we did. Not a fine dining experience if that is what you want but a comfortable experience. We split a salad and the entree portions were a good size. My husband had a Thai noodle type dish and he really enjoyed it. I had the prime rib which came as I requested. We didn't have dessert but marvelled at a couple of plates that went by.Read more
my first visit, We heard that they had a new head chef and that the menu had changed...my wife had the herb encrusted scallops with chorize and saffon for an app... it was to die for... I ordered the beef tenderloin medium rare with potato and butternunt squash puree... I dont like squash...I could have eaten a bowl full of it... the steak came with wild and domestic mushrooms and carmalized onions with a red wine sauce.... the steak was cooked perfect. My wife had potato and leek soup... the meal was one of the best I have had in a very long time... if you read my reviews you will notice that I always find somthing that is not done properly... not here... Having spent many forgettable hours in the old Pacific when it was a straight bar with a pool table, I was intrigued to see what the new owners had done especially as being from Jamaica, they have introduced some staples from The Islands into their menu. Pool table long gone and nicely laid out tables with linen napkins (!!), fresh dark paint greeted us. Orville, the owner's son welcomed us and his evident enthusiasm for the jerk chicken roti convinced my friend (who generally is a very fussy and unadventurous eater) and I to try that. It comes with choice of salad or soup of the day which on this Saturday night was curried pea (chick peas). The soup was excellent: thick, creamy, flavourful with just enough curry to satisfy and not spicy hot at all but warming as soup should be. Jodi took over and brought our roti which was full of flavour, once again mild in heat but you can have (as I did) a side bowl with some wickedy hot Jamaican sauce. The shredded chicken/potato combination was wrapped in a phyllo pastry adding richness to the warm mouthfeel of the dish. It and the soup was a really full meal. After-dinner coffee was very, very strong. Extremely friendly service and the tasty entrees make this a delightful addition in a veritable wasteland for well-prepared, good food. I'll be interested to try their take on some of the many regular menu items (steaks, pork, burgers, etc., etc.).Read more
